Anyone considering a Templar with Restoration Staff? I wasn't sure if it is over kill with only 5 action slots available. I have found during the beta I needed offensive abilities slotted. Anyone get a feel for how much healing is necessary in a group?

I am going to play resto staff Templar I think. I played one for a couple tests and found for pve content the resto staff packed enough of a punch to be viable at least for questing. I had about 3 offensive templar abilities slotted and then 2 heals and a damage ultimate.
If you plan to dps, I'd go destro staff, hybrid of heals resto. Don't forget we can set up two bars and weapons that we can hotkey to switch to in combat as well.
I did a bit of group content, I like the feel of templar healing but feel there is a big learning curve for anyone coming from traditional mmo healing, using the base game UI. It's doable though and keeps you on your toes. Still, I'll probably mod UI for healing.

I tried out the Templar in the beta(s) too and found them to be quite fun. I'm thinking about healing in the end game.

I started my Templar with Sword and Board but the skills seemed more about agro control than increased armor or cover. I really enjoyed two handed but found duel wielding disappointing. The only thing I didn't try was staff and bow. I hope that I can try them out next beta... if there will be one.

I was using bow with a Nightblade this last test. I enjoyed it more than the first couple times I tried bow, but the damage still felt underwhelming compared to a destro or even resto staff.

I started out my Templar with a restore staff and was able to do quest fine for quite a while, eventually I started having trouble with groups of three.
At that point I swapped to a 2H and that did help, but I noticed that I started to lose HP at a rate that made me nervous so I changed to a 1H & shield.
That helped me a lot in terms of simplifying my rotation and providing increased survivability.
