I don’t know if anyone else has run into this or not, but I did, and figured I do a public service announcement.
I need to set the stage a little so you can see how I could be so oblivious to what was happening for so long …
I play a healer, I always play a healer, and my first goal when I start a new MMO is to get to the character to the point that I can say, “I’ve got a bar full of heals and good intentions.” To me, this means I have the tools to start instancing. It’s no fun to go into an instance before this point, because I “normally” do not like to watch my team die.
When I do go into an instance, I’m very focused on how these tools actually work, and what happens to my resources when I use them (standard stuff). I know that MMOs are played over a period of years so I have very little concern about low level gear that I’m going to replace 20 times+ over.
So I’m in there doing my thing, and the first thing that hits me odd is that DPS isn’t saying pull, as a matter of fact there is a lot more down time than normal, but this worked for me because I’ve got Resto Staff and Templar Heals to check out so I’m swapping spells and taking notes … basically the down time is working for me. What I didn’t realize was that people are opening chests and getting gear.
We do the first boss, and no loot role, OK, odd but OK. Second boss, same thing, but I’m learning so I’m cool. Anyway, so we finish up and the tank says, “wanna go again?” So I go again, because that’s what I do, and about halfway through it hits me – there are no loot roles, and I’m getting ripped off because I’m trying to do my job, the freak’n loot is coming from the chests, and the chests are being opened by whoever gets there first.
Anyway, so I get to work on Monday, load of my feed, and the first one on the list is “ESO Dungeons Are FULL of TROLLS” I laughed because I knew what that was going to be about before I watched it. This guy had it way worse. It’s worth a listen.
